Municipalities, in "war" with debts - Obligations fall, no unit with over 1 billion ALL
The local self-government units are following a positive trend with regard to the repayment of arrears, which at the end of September 2024 will result in a figure of 3.5 billion ALL or nearly 36 million euros.
Referring to the official data of the Ministry of Finance, at the end of the 9th month of 2024, the local government recorded a lower value of the stock of unpaid debt against businesses and citizens, with -0.7 billion ALL in relation to June 2024.
From the total stock, nearly ALL 1.4 billion are unpaid liabilities for public investments, about ALL 320 million are court decisions and ALL 935 million are other expenses.
But which are the municipalities that have the most obligations? Referring to the list, the value of the debts that the municipalities have is not necessarily related to their surface area or the number of the population, except for the Municipality of Tirana.
Specifically, the Municipality of Kavajë ranks first with 751 million ALL unpaid liabilities, followed by the Municipality of Tirana with 525 million ALL debts, then the Municipality of Vorë is ranked, the liabilities of each of which are recorded at 273 million ALL, the Municipality of Pogradec with 262 million ALL and Dimal with 155 million ALL.
Then the municipalities of Dibër, Cërrik, Lezhë, Durrës and Kamëz are listed. While the municipalities of Korçë, Has and Kolonje are ranked at the bottom of the list of municipalities in terms of the value of debts. Referring to the data, there are some of those municipalities that have made progress in paying off their obligations, leaving the top list, as there are also those that they did the opposite.
For the first time in so many years, the municipalities have reduced their liabilities below the level of 1 billion ALL, marking an important progress in this direction.
