The works on the first 6 phases of the Elbasan-Rrogozhinë axis, part of Corridor VIII, are nearing completion. According to the latest update from the Albanian Road Authority, intensive work is currently underway to complete the asphalt layers on about 15 km of the segment, while the overall physical completion has reached 87%.

These 6 lots include the axis from Elbasan, near Peqin, while in one of them the work is also focused on large works of art. According to the ARRSH, the asphalt layers are being concretely implemented on two bridges, while the superstructure works on two other bridges are also nearing completion.

The first six phases cover about 20 km of the new Elbasan-Rrogozhinë axis and, according to previously declared objectives, their completion is expected within 2026. In total, the project has a length of 40.7 km.

It starts near the former Metallurgical Plant in Elbasan, where it is planned to connect to the Elbasan bypass, and ends in Lekaj, where it joins the existing Blue Corridor highway. The route passes through the territories of Elbasan, Peqin and Kavaja.

Upon completion, the axis will have two lanes in each direction and will create a new connection with high road standards along Corridor VIII. According to the project documents, the permitted speed in different segments is envisaged in the range of 90–140 km/h.

Elbasan–Rrogozhinë is part of Corridor VIII, which connects the east-west direction and continues from Elbasan towards Qafë-Thana, where other segments of this corridor are being built in parallel.
