The connecting road between Bilça Bridge and Drobonik is being asphalted - Rama: New gateway to the Berat-Ballaban-Përmet-Gjirokastër-Greqi axis
The new road connecting Bilçë Bridge with Drobonik in Berat has entered the asphalting phase. The bridge connects the villages of Bilçë, Malinat and Zhitom i Vogël with the village of Drobonik, bringing an impact on facilitating the movement of vehicles through the Berat-Ballaban-Përmet-Gjirokastër-Greki axis. The completion of the road is also expected to have a direct impact on the agricultural and tourist development of the area.
The bridge is 290 meters long and 12.4 meters wide, including sidewalks and bicycle lanes. This investment, according to local government leaders, is considered a major gateway for tourist flows to Berat, and one of the most strategic investments. Tour operators also consider it an expansion of the tourist package for the many visitors, turning Bilça into a separate neighborhood of Berat, part of UNESCO, as well as opening a new development perspective for ecotourism in these areas.
The investment, an EU-funded initiative through the Tourism-Led Local Economic Development Support Programme, has doubled the value of the area, encouraging farmers to invest more in agricultural production and creating new opportunities for businesses and crafts. In parallel, works were also carried out to change the riverbed, a project made possible thanks to funding from the European Commission through the EBRD, in partnership with the Albanian Development Fund.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has published on social media images of this road segment, emphasizing that it is not just a road on the map, but a bridge of development. According to him, this new road and a long-awaited project increases access to surrounding villages, supports agriculture and opens a new door for the tourist flow coming from the South to Berat and vice versa.
