EU Ambassador Gonzato meets with the head of the CEC - "Important May 11, the first elections after the opening of negotiations"
The EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, held a meeting with the head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashin. After the meeting, the ambassador told reporters that the May 11 elections are very important.
"We have confidence in the ODIHR, it has done an extraordinary job. The European Union is here to support Albania and not to interfere in the process. I emphasize that May 11 is very important, it is the first elections after the opening of negotiations. The Diaspora vote is a transparent process and the CEC has done a good job."
Meanwhile, the head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, described the meeting held with the EU Ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, as productive.
"It was a meeting to provide information on the preparation of the elections. We are in a continuous process of cooperation and support from the EU delegation that will continue after the elections. Albania is at an important moment of integration, so all institutions and parties must reflect on their responsibility for elections with integrity."
Regarding election envelopes, the chief commissioner declares the date until which the postal company must keep them.
"DHL is obligated to keep in its offices envelopes that have not been able to be delivered to voters by May 8th."
