AIPS-EURO, record transactions in 2024 - BoA: 30.5% more transfers in the European currency than in 2023
The year 2024 closed with a balance many times higher than 2023, in terms of the number and amount of transactions carried out through the AIPS system.
The AIPS-EURO system began operating in 2022. Since that year, transactions carried out through this system have experienced a significant increase. In 2024, a total of 325 thousand transactions were carried out with a value of 5.2 billion euros. Last year, about 30.5% more transactions were carried out than in 2023, while their amount also increased by 26.2%.
The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that in December more transactions were carried out through the AIPS-EURO system than in other months of the year. Specifically, in December, around 34 thousand operations were carried out, almost 30% more than in the previous month.
As the number has increased, the value of transactions has also increased. According to official statistics, in the last month of 2024, the amount of transactions reached almost 604 million euros, the highest value recorded since the beginning of the year.
The Albanian Interbank Payment System AIPS EURO is used by banks to transfer large amounts of money between each other in real time. AIPS enables large, fast and secure payments between banks, helping to maintain financial operations in the country.
