Tourism increased meat imports - 48.6 thousand tons arrived during 2024. Brazil brought the largest amount
Over the past year, with the increase in the number of tourists, meat imports into the country have followed the same trajectory, meeting the ever-growing demands of both domestic and foreign consumers.
According to INSTAT data, in 2024, around 48,600 tons of meat were imported, including edible offal.
This trend of increasing imports is particularly noticeable during the summer months, when import levels peak. During the period June-August, 13,250 tons of imported meat were recorded.
Compared to the same period last year, the increase is 12%, undoubtedly influenced by the tourist season, which has increased demand for food, causing restaurants and other services to import more meat to meet the needs of foreign tourists and beyond.
In terms of the countries from which the meat came, those that have exported the most to Albania are Greece, the United States of America, Paraguay, Italy and Brazil.
Of the above countries, Brazil has held the leading positions, contributing the largest amount of meat imported to Albania.
Last year, about 12,300 tons of meat came from this country, accounting for a quarter of total imports, or 25%.
