Will AI cut jobs in the fashion industry? - Prençe: 1 device covers 5 employees. The industry is transformed
The rapid development of artificial intelligence is affecting every sector of the economy, from manufacturing, exports, to services, making the power of the workforce less necessary. P
Will employees in clothing and footwear manufacturing companies be at risk from this phenomenon and will the employee crisis in Albania be solved through investments?
The Chairman of Proeksport Albania, Edvin Prençe, sees investment in this direction as a necessity to increase productivity and reduce costs, but on the other hand, he states that the intention is not to cut jobs.
"To buy a high-tech machine costs 30-40 thousand euros. For a process that requires 4-5 employees to do that work, you replace it with a machine that leads to increased quality because it does a standard process and a hand is a hand, but on the other hand, we will not dismiss these 4 employees and send them home, but we will orient them towards other work processes. Technology is expensive, but at the end of the day, the benefit and what it gives back is very great. I have always said it and will continue to emphasize it. The government must see businesses as partners, because if a business enjoys health and has an increase in turnover, the government also benefits because you will pay taxes that you will pay. That is why I emphasize tripartite cooperation, business, government and university and professional institutions, which must provide the necessary mentoring."
Meanwhile, artificial intelligence expert Elton Domnori emphasizes that in companies where these technologies have been introduced, experience has shown that employees will serve new processes.
"New processes will be created, existing ones will be improved. All technological revolutions have not brought such a drastic decrease in the workforce, they will be channeled more towards use, there will be more technicians for the maintenance of these devices, as these people will be trained to be technicians, maintenance, assembly, so they will move on to the technological part, but they will not be left without work."
According to Prença, the greatest risk of job loss is if businesses do not invest in technology, as they are not competitive in the international market and are forced to close.
According to him, investing in and using artificial intelligence is a necessity even in the situation we are in, where we are trying to be members of the European Union.
In the clothing and footwear industry in our country, over 800 active enterprises operate and employ over 70 thousand employees.
