The Albanian Road Authority has announced the opening of the tender for the construction of connecting roads in the Llogara Tunnel. The limit fund made available for this project is 576 million and 395 thousand lekë.

According to the document published by the Public Procurement Agency, the road segment connecting the Llogara (Palas) Tunnel begins after the tunnel exit, about 1 km away, then continues on the existing road for another kilometer.

The road that will connect the tunnel with the built part of Palasa-Dhermi, will serve to connect the southern coastal areas for means of transport from Orikumi to Himara, passing from Qafa e Llogarasë to Himara and beyond.

The existing intersection that connects the new Palasë-Dhermi road with the old axis will be designed as a roundabout. From this roundabout to the already built roundabout, there will be 600 meters of completely new track. The track of the facility consists of two road axes.

Referring to the document, this project aims to rehabilitate the existing route, from the exit of the Palasa tunnel, to the existing intersection of the new road with the old road and to design the construction of a new road, from the existing intersection to the roundabout of the Palasa-Dhermi project, already under construction.

Meanwhile, during the summer season, traffic jams form along its length. This situation is mainly caused by the large influx of tourists in this area. During the winter season, the technical conditions for passing this segment, closely related to the geographical characteristics of the area, deteriorate, increasing the risk of incidents that may occur there.

Based on the data published in the National Strategy for Tourism Development, the area in question has high economic potential. The areas of Palasa, Himara and Dhërmi are presented as strategic areas for the development of tourism in this area, also conditioned by the rare environmental values that the area possesses.
