EU offers armored vehicles to Albania/ Around 15 million euros to support the Armed Forces
The European Union will provide Albania with 15 million euros to strengthen the defense capacities and capabilities of the Armed Forces. This assistance is provided under the European Peace Facility, bringing the total amount of support to Albania to 28 million euros to date.
Through the European Peace Facility measure, the EU will provide the Albanian Armed Forces with light multi-purpose armoured vehicles, as well as tactical and engineering vehicles. Meanwhile, when necessary, relevant supplies and services, including operational and maintenance training, will also be provided.
This assistance will increase Albania's potential to contribute to EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) operations and missions and to international coalitions.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Kaja Kallas, states that this decision illustrates the EU's strong and continued commitment to Albania on security and defense.
“ Albania is a close and stable partner of the EU in foreign and security policy, a contributor to EU operations and a NATO ally. Strengthening our security and defence cooperation with Albania directly reinforces European stability, security and peace, ” said Kaja Kallas.
According to the European Council, this also reflects the mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation in this area, building on the signature of the Security and Defence Partnership between the EU and Albania in November 2024 and the launch of the first Security and Defence Dialogue in April 2025. The adoption of a new support package recognises Albania's full alignment with the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy.
The European Peace Facility was established in March 2021. The first bilateral assistance measure under the European Peace Facility in support of the Albanian Armed Forces worth 13 million euros was approved in July 2024.
