285 properties confiscated across the country - Most of them residential buildings, apartments and agricultural land in Tirana
According to the Agency for the Administration of Sequestered and Confiscated Assets, around 285 assets have been confiscated in Albania.
This agency has recently published a catalog containing a detailed list of assets confiscated by final court decision, including complete information on their type, location and current status.
Most of these assets were confiscated in Tirana, while the remainder is found scattered in other cities of the country. Specifically, 71 assets were confiscated in the capital, most of which were residential buildings, apartments, garages, or agricultural land.
The catalog data shows that 18 properties are apartment-type, 8 properties are building, residential building, or land together, 5 agricultural lands, 3 clothing stores (one of which with land), 2 bar-cafe businesses, 4 garage-type properties (some even interconnected), 1 exchange unit, billiards, fast food, pastry shop and many others.
The Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets receives from the State Police and administers assets seized and confiscated from criminal groups or other persons. These assets, which pass into the hands of the state, can be put up for sale or leased by the latter.
Meanwhile, the Asset Recovery Office is expected to be established this year, which will deal with tracking assets from organized crime and corruption.
In the National Reform Agenda 2021-2027, it is envisaged that this office will act as a National Coordination Unit and regional or international contact point, contributing to improving confiscations.
By the end of 2026, it is aimed that around 50% of the number and value of confiscated assets will be reused within 6 months of confiscation, including their social reuse.
