24% of vehicles are "stuck" in technical inspection/ What are the defects that endanger the lives of drivers?
The General Directorate of Road Transport Services has published data for 2025 regarding the technical inspection service for vehicles in circulation. During this period, 206,822 vehicles were tested at the Technical Inspection Center. However, not all of them were declared safe to circulate on the road.
According to data published by the DPSHTRR, 24.2% of vehicles failed the test, resulting in numerous deficiencies and problems in the vehicle system. Meanwhile, 37.9% of vehicles were impounded due to problems in the exhaust system, and 34.3% of vehicles exhibited visual or functional deficiencies related to basic safety elements. Likewise, 14.7% of vehicles were impounded due to defects in the braking system, and the steering system represented 13.1% of cases.
Regarding geographical distribution, Tirana tops the list with the most vehicles tested, over 72 thousand this year alone. This is because Tirana is the city where the population is most concentrated and the number of vehicles circulating is higher compared to other cities. Durrës is next with around 28 thousand vehicles, Fier with 18,849 vehicles, Shkodra with 14,152 vehicles, and Elbasan with more than 13 thousand vehicles checked.
The DPSHTRR underlines that technical inspection is not only a legal obligation, but is a commitment to life, safety and the environment. Taking care of your vehicle is also taking care of the lives of the citizens who share the same road with you.
