"Google must share search data with rivals"/ US court orders company

A federal judge in the US has ruled that Alphabet-owned Google must share search data with rivals to increase competition in the online search engine market. However, the court rejected a request by prosecutors to force the company to sell its Chrome browser.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed concerns during the trial in April that sharing this data could give rivals the ability to “unlock” the company’s technology and copy it. The company has said it will appeal the ruling, which could delay the order for several years.

This decision comes after a five-year legal battle between one of the world's most profitable companies and the US state itself, where Judge Amit Mehta previously ruled that Google holds an illegal monopoly in the online search and advertising market.

During the trial, prosecutors sought strong measures to restore competition and prevent the company from extending its dominance into the field of artificial intelligence. Google, on the other hand, argued that these measures are unjustified and constitute a direct harm to its technology.

In addition to this case, Google faces other lawsuits related to dominant positions in other markets. The company has said it will continue to fight a decision that forces it to change the way its app store operates, following a lawsuit won by Epic Games, the creator of "Fortnite."

Another trial is also expected in September to determine punitive measures against Google. According to a judge, the company has also created a monopoly in the online advertising technology market.

Both cases brought by the Justice Department are part of a broader effort in the US to limit the power of big tech companies, which began during President Donald Trump's first term and includes other lawsuits against Meta, Amazon and Apple.
