2024, unemployment in Albania drops to 8.8% - Figures reflect population decline

Unemployment in Albania for the population aged 15 and over is registered at 8.8 percent. INSTAT Director Elsa Dhuli has announced the figures from the quarterly labor force survey for the fourth quarter of 2024, which shows an annual decrease in unemployment of 0.8%.

The data is based on the 2023 Population Census, according to which 2.4 million citizens live in Albania, as well as demographic changes.

"The official unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2024 for the population 15 years and older is 8.8 percent, marking an annual decrease of 0.8% and a quarterly increase of 0.7%. The labor force participation rate in the fourth quarter of 2024 for the population 15-64 years old is 75.5% with an annual increase of 1.2% and a quarterly decrease of 0.4%."

On the other hand, the employment rate has increased compared to a year ago.

“In the fourth quarter of 2024, the employment rate for the population aged 15-64 is 68.3%, marking an annual increase of 1.6% and a quarterly decrease of 0.8%.”

According to the data, during the fourth quarter of 2024, 17.8% of the economically inactive and working-age population were fulfilling household duties, 10.6% of them were retired or early retired and 14.9% were on permanent disability and 4.1% were not looking for work because they believed that there were no jobs available, being classified as discouraged unemployed.
