In the first 3 months of this year, the National Cyber Security Authority has identified and managed a total of 14 cyber incidents, taking concrete measures to neutralize threats and protect critical infrastructures.

Most of the incidents are related to the compromise of applications. Specifically, 6 cases result in attacks targeting applications that provide services, jeopardizing their functionality and security.

Meanwhile, 4 cases of Spear Phishing were detected, which involve targeted attempts to deceive specific users and gain unauthorized access through personalized communications. Only 1 attack was identified as a DDoS, for overloading systems and disrupting the functioning of services. So, DDoS is a network attack, the aim of which is to disconnect a website or network for a period of time, loading it with excessive traffic and making its service unavailable.

On the other hand, Ransomware-type attacks, Exploiting known vulnerabilities in systems to penetrate or manipulate their operation, Reconnaissance and Full Scanning are 1 case each. Ransomware is the encryption of data for the purpose of financial gain through ransom. In other words, Ransomware involves a type of program (malware) that encodes files and holds them hostage until individuals provide sensitive information or a ransom is paid to the attacker.

Reconnaissance and Full Scanning are discovery activities against the entire infrastructure, with the aim of identifying weaknesses in the institution's digital architecture.

During the past year, the National Cyber Security Authority has identified, handled and managed 32 cyber incidents, fewer than in 2023.
