13.1 billion lek for water supply and sewage - Improving the quality of

13.1 billion lek was spent in the water supply and sanitation sector during 2024, or 97% of the revised plan. According to data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, this value is 17% less than a year ago.

One of the objectives of the “Water Supply and Sewerage” program is to expand and improve the quality of services in the water supply and sewerage sector, while the MEI lists some of the main projects where money was spent during the past year. This includes several investments in the coastal areas of Hamallaj and the Municipality of Divjakë or the completion of the entire wastewater sewerage network in Pogradec and the Administrative Unit of Buçimas, Municipality of Pogradec. The investments also include the construction of water supply systems in several villages of Pogradec, Has or Peshkopia.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Water Regulatory Authority, the duration of water supply reached 17.3 hours per day last year, from 16.3 hours per day in 2023, marking an improvement of 1 hour/day. According to the WRA, there are 8 regional companies that provide water supply service 20 - 24 hours/day, such as: UKR Korçë, Lezhë, Berat, Gjirokastër, Pogradec, Shkodër, Sarandë. The companies performing worse are UK Kamzë with 4 hours/day and UK Vorë with 8 hours/day. Uninterrupted water supply 24/7 is provided only by the Regional UK Lezhë Company.

Even non-revenue water for 2024 improved by about 3.6% compared to the previous year, respectively from 64.7% to 61.1%.
