The government's domestic public debt until the end of March 2025 is recorded at a value of approximately 7.8 billion euros.

Detailed data from the debt register for the first quarter of the year show a slight decrease in the stock of domestic debt compared to the previous year, but an increase compared to previous years.

In relation to Gross Domestic Product, the domestic debt stock is recorded at 29.81%, the lowest figure since 2015.

But who are the holders of the government's domestic debt?

The banking sector has provided more loans and accounts for 63.61% of the total debt stock, of which 8.69% are bank clients.

In second place are financial institutions which have provided 15.23% of the total loan.

Individuals account for 10% of the total debt stock and the Bank of Albania accounts for 8.02%.

While the smallest share of domestic lending is held by non-financial institutions with 3.12 5.

In the first quarter of this year, the entire stock of domestic government debt is in the national currency.

The majority of the debt, around 5.8 billion euros, is taken out with long-term maturity instruments, 2-20 year bonds. While 1.9 billion euros are short-term instruments, 3, 6 and 12 month treasury bills.

In total, the government's total public debt in the first quarter of this year reached 14.2 billion euros, up from 13.6 billion lek at the end of the fourth quarter of the previous year. In relation to Gross Domestic Product, the total stock of public debt is recorded at 54.18% this year, with a slight increase of 0.23%.
