Over 76 thousand citizens in the Republic of Macedonia on social assistance - Ministry of Social Policy announces modernization and improvement of the scheme

During 2025, 76,250 people used social protection in North Macedonia. Data from the State Statistical Office show that 16,743 were minors, and the remaining 59,507 beneficiaries were adult citizens.
The data shows that 76 beneficiaries were cared for in three institutions for children and youth without parents and parental care. Furthermore, 223 citizens were cared for in three institutions for the care of persons with disabilities in mental and physical development.
In an institution for the care of children with educational and social problems and disordered behavior, 27 children were included. In 2025, 125 companies from the private sector employed or engaged 1,433 people with some type of disability. In addition, 40 homes for the elderly were available to 2,135 people.
Of the total social protection rights among minor beneficiaries, social work services had the largest share of 50.3%. Of the total social protection rights among adult beneficiaries, social protection services had the largest share of 84.6%. In 2025, 35,950 heads of households, i.e. the same number of families, used guaranteed minimum assistance”, states the report of the State Statistical Office.
The Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth announced the modernization and improvement of the processes for processing and payment of social and child protection rights. The goal of the reform is to increase the efficiency, security and quality of services. The Ministry states that the payment of rights will be carried out immediately after the completion of technical adjustments. They also assure users that their rights will be fully ensured.
