Kosovo, imports reach over 5 billion euros in 2025 - Chamber of Commerce: The country is importing inflation along with goods
Kosovo continues to deepen its dependence on imported goods, driving the trade deficit to a high and worrying level. The country imported goods worth over five billion euros from January to the end of September this year. The value of imports into Kosovo increased by about half a billion euros in this period, compared to the same months last year. However, the total quantity of goods for this period remains lower than their value.
Regarding the quantity of imported goods, in this period of 2025, Kosovo imported over 4.2 billion kg of goods, compared to 3.9 billion kg a year earlier.
In addition, another challenge is the decrease in the value of exported goods. According to Kosovo Customs data, the value of exports has decreased by about 30 million euros during the first nine months of 2025, compared to the same period last year.
Kosovo Customs announced that the value of goods exported from January to the end of September this year is over 630 million euros, compared to 658 million euros in the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the trade deficit has reached over 4.4 billion euros, compared to over 3.9 billion in the same period last year.
Germany, Turkey, China, Albania and Italy are among the main importing countries in the first period of 2025. The increase in the value of imported goods and the decrease in the value of exported ones are considered worrying by the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce (KKC) and the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
According to the Chamber of Commerce, the quantity of imported goods is smaller than their value, because along with the goods, Kosovo also imports inflation from other countries. Some products come in smaller quantities, but have a much higher value due to price increases in the countries of origin. This factor has a direct impact on the prices that reach the Kosovo market, making them more expensive for consumers,” explains the Chamber.
