Croatian pizza is "served" at a high cost/ Croatia, the country with the highest price increase in the EU

Croatia has seen the biggest increase in the price of pizza in the European Union over the past year, according to the latest data from Eurostat.
Between August 2024 and August 2025, the average price of pizza in Croatia increased by 7.2%. Latvia followed with 6.6%, while Hungary, Greece and Romania recorded increases between 5% and 5.3%. Across the EU, prices for this food item increased by an average of 1%.
In contrast, several Western European countries recorded decreases. Luxembourg suffered the largest decline at -2.9%, followed by Denmark (-2.4%) and Ireland (-1.8%). Smaller declines were also observed in Spain, Belgium, Germany and Finland.
The increase in the costs of ingredients, especially flour, cheese, vegetables and meat, has directly affected the price of food in restaurants and pizzerias.
Furthermore, higher energy costs, delivery costs and wage increases in the hospitality sector have contributed to the overall expansion of operating expenses.
Despite the price hike, Croatian pizza remains one of the most popular dishes among locals and visitors. Local pizza chefs are also gaining more and more recognition, while local food is becoming known for the quality of ingredients and creativity.
