Croatia increases minimum wage to 1,050 euros - Government approves decision. 50% increase in the last three years

The Croatian government has adopted a new regulation setting the country's minimum wage for 2026 at €1,050 gross per month. This decision represents an increase of €80 compared to the 2025 minimum wage. According to the government, this change reflects continued economic growth, expanding employment and a steady rise in average wages in Croatia.
Since 2016, when the minimum gross wage was €414, the amount has expanded by 153%. The increase has been particularly noticeable over the last three years, when the minimum wage has increased by 50%, from €700 to €1,050 gross.
"We consider that the appropriate amount for the gross minimum wage in 2026 is €1,050. This means that from 2016, when our first mandate began, to 2026, the gross amount of the minimum wage will have increased by 153 percent," the government stressed.
According to officials, the new tariff fits into Croatia's broader goal of narrowing the gap with other Central and Eastern European countries that joined the EU earlier.
The latest data from the Croatian Statistical Office showed that the average monthly net salary in August was €1,446, marking an increase of 9.2% in nominal terms and 4.9% in real terms compared to the same period last year.
With the current minimum wage of €970 gross, Croatia stands at 75% of the EU average for minimum wages, while future increases are expected to bring it even closer to this standard.
The government has stressed that the decision balances the needs of employees and employers. While the increase aims to improve the standard of living for those earning less, measures will also be taken to support businesses affected by higher costs.
