Commissioner's Office holds roundtable with the Insurers Association of Albania: Cooperation on the implementation of the new law "On the protection of personal data"

The Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection held a working roundtable with the Association of Insurers of Albania and insurance company executives, focusing on the practical implementation of the new Law No. 124/2024 "On the Protection of Personal Data".
In his speech, Commissioner Mr. Besnik Dervishi, praised the role of the insurance sector as one of the main sectors in the processing of personal data.
The Commissioner appealed to representatives of insurance companies to see the Commissioner's Office as a partner in this process and to take all necessary measures to implement the law, guaranteeing that the Office will support them with training, orientations and practical instructions for compliance with the new standards.
He added that the Commissioner's Office has monitored over the years the way data is processed in the insurance sector and has provided concrete recommendations for improving information security measures and transparency towards citizens.
For his part, the Chairman of the Assembly of Members of the Insurers Association of Albania, Mr. Xhevdet Kopani, congratulated the Commissioner's Office on behalf of the companies for the initiative and underlined the commitment of insurance companies to comply with the new law.
"Companies have taken important steps to ensure compliance with the law, including reviewing privacy policies, updating internal documents, and we will continue to follow staff training programs," said Kopani.
Following the roundtable, Ms. Besa Velaj, representative of the Commissioner's Office, presented the main innovations of the new law, highlighting the changes in the obligations of controllers and processors, transparency towards data subjects and the role of the Data Protection Officer (DPO).
Participants discussed the drafting of unified documents for the sector, including a Code of Conduct for insurance companies.
The Commissioner's Office will continue organizing similar roundtables with other important sectors.
