Greece cuts prices of over 1,600 products - Measures to ease living costs

Over 1,600 consumer products in Greece have been offered at reduced prices, as part of a government initiative to ease the cost of living pressure on families.
The program, launched on Monday, includes food products and everyday items, as well as school supplies, on the eve of the start of the new school year.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the initiative is expected to bring price reductions of 5% to 7% over the next two to four months.
"Of course, this is not the answer to everything that is currently putting pressure on the family budget," said Mitsotakis, adding that the measure constitutes concrete relief, especially at a time when families are also facing expenses for the start of the new school year.
So far, more than 90 wholesale companies, 12 supermarket chains, and 3 chains that sell toys and school supplies have been included in the program.
Products that benefit from the discount will be identified in stores through special labels, so that consumers can distinguish them more easily.
Citizens will also have the opportunity to use the Posokanei online platform, where they can check participating products, the discount amount, and the points where they are available.
The measure comes at a time when inflation and rising prices of food and basic products, along with rents and utilities, continue to be among the main concerns of Greek citizens.
The government initiative aims to provide direct relief to consumers as Prime Minister Mitsotakis faces upcoming parliamentary elections next year.
