Greece, 1 billion euro increase in household deposits - Gross wealth per capita

Monthly net flows in August into Greek households' deposit accounts with banks are estimated at 1 billion euros, with their balance standing at 151.3 billion euros at the end of the summer. Of this, 115 billion euros are in overnight accounts, while deposits in short-term accounts are much smaller. Compared to the same period in 2024, household deposits were 3.4% higher.

In the economy as a whole, deposits recorded a positive net monthly flow of 2.3 billion euros, offsetting the corresponding negative flow in July. Deposits of non-financial corporations (excluding insurance companies and banks) also increased by approximately 1 billion euros, reaching 49.5 billion euros at the end of August.

During the same period, bank financing of the Greek economy remained relatively stable, with the balance of loans to the economy at €200.5 billion. However, the net flow of financing to the private sector was positive, with the balance of loans to businesses ending the summer at €86.7 billion and the corresponding balance of loans to households at €34.4 billion.

Meanwhile, the gross per capita wealth of Greeks was estimated at 33,190 euros for 2024, according to the annual Wealth Report of the insurance company Allianz. However, in net prices, that is, if citizens' liabilities (e.g. debts) are removed, the per capita wealth was 23,220 euros.

Compared to the 2023 report, total gross wealth increased by 5.7% and reached 351 billion euros. These figures place Greece in 29th place among the 57 countries included in the report in terms of net wealth per capita, and in 28th place for gross wealth per capita.
