Germany has 500 more super-rich - With around 3,900 people, the country ranks third in the world after the US and China
There are around 3,900 so-called super-rich in Germany, people with financial assets of over $100 million. In one year, the number of super-rich increased by another 500 people, whose wealth increased by 16 percent. This increase in wealth is mainly due to large gains from exchange rates on international financial markets.
The super-rich own almost a third of the financial wealth in the country. These 3,900 super-rich, also called "Ultra High Net Worth Individuals" (UHNWI), according to the latest "Global Wealth Report 2025" by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) business consultancy, collectively own almost three billion dollars. This amount constitutes 27 percent of Germany's total financial wealth. Overall, Germany's gross budgetary wealth is 22.9 billion dollars, of which 11.1 billion are financial assets, i.e. bank deposits, securities, pensions and cash. 11.8 billion dollars are real estate and other real assets.
Worldwide, Germany, with 3,900 super-rich, ranks third, behind the US (33,000) and China (9,200). The number of millionaires has also increased in Germany, where 678,000 people own at least one million dollars, an increase of 65,000 compared to the previous year.
The non-governmental organization Oxfam is critical of the increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of a few. In its report from January 2025, the organization points out that German billionaires on average benefit greatly from inheritance: 71 percent of their wealth was not earned by them, but was inherited. Compared to the global average, only 36 percent of wealth is inherited.
