Greek businesses double their use of AI - But lag behind the European average
Greek businesses are taking artificial intelligence tools more and more seriously, although they still have some way to go in terms of automating operations and developing human resource skills.
The latest Eurostat data shows that Greece ranks below the European average in terms of the use of artificial intelligence, as less than one in ten businesses with ten or more employees used these technologies in the past year. Compared to 2023, there are notable advances, as from almost 4% in 2023, the use of the new technology has increased to 9.81% in 2024. However, this figure remains far from the EU average, which is 13.48%.
At the top of the European list are Denmark (27.58%), Sweden (25.09%) and Belgium (24.71%), while Romania (3%), Poland (5.9%) and Bulgaria (6.47%) rank last. Overall, the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the European Union has increased compared to 2023, with the highest increase recorded in Sweden (14.72 percentage points) and the lowest in Portugal (only 0.77 points).
Greek businesses with 50 to 249 employees have tripled their productivity. According to Eurostat data, 15.91% of them used artificial intelligence in 2024, up from just 5.68% a year earlier.
Although the gap with other countries continues, Greek companies have begun to use technology in human resource management.
According to a survey conducted by Experis for the second quarter of 2025, 40% of employers in Greece use artificial intelligence for staff recruitment, training and integration, still a lower percentage than the global average (53%).
However, Greek businesses face a number of challenges, such as the high cost of investment, concerns about confidentiality, privacy and protection of personal data.
