In 2024, the average annual salary for a full-time job reached 39,800 euros, marking an increase of 5.2% from 37,800 euros in 2023, according to Eurostat data.

This reflects a general trend of rising wages in many Member States, however the data also shows large differences between countries.

The highest average salaries were recorded in Luxembourg with 82,969 euros, followed by Denmark with 71,565 euros and Ireland with 61,051 euros. At the bottom of the ranking are Bulgaria with 15,387 euros per year, Greece with 17,954 euros and Hungary with 18,461 euros.

Germany and France rank above the European average, with annual incomes of €53,791 and €43,790 respectively. Among other major economies, Spain and Italy rank 12th and 13th, with almost identical average annual salaries of €33,700 and €33,523. Poland has moved up one position compared to 2023, reaching 22nd place with an average of €21,246.

The annual full-time wage index is compiled using a combination of data from national accounts and the Labour Force Survey (LFS).

Annual wage data are reported by each country according to the European System of Accounts 2010 Transmission Programme (ESA 2010 TP).

This change comes in a context of economic recovery after the challenges of recent years, including the pandemic and inflationary pressures. Sector experts underline the need for harmonized policies to support wages and living standards across the bloc.
