200,000 protesters paralyze the streets of France - Citizens clash with police,

French police arrested 473 people during a massive “Block Everything” protest aimed at paralyzing transport and daily life across France, just two days after the government of Prime Minister François Bayrou was toppled over harsh austerity measures that sparked widespread discontent.

According to the Interior Ministry, 200,000 protesters were registered across the country, while the largest labor union claims the number of participants was over 250,000.

To cope with the situation, the authorities deployed 80,000 police officers, while the demonstrators spread to Paris and other major cities. The decentralized and leaderless nature of the protest led to different groups organizing various actions across the city, but many of them were quickly dispersed by the security forces.

In several areas of Paris, protesters lit fires, built barricades and attempted to block the Paris ring road, the busiest urban highway in Europe. In the early hours of the morning, groups of protesters burned trash cans and blocked tram tracks near Porte de Montreuil, in eastern Paris, before police intervened and dispersed the crowds.

The "Block Everything" movement is gaining momentum, especially on social media. It is fueled by popular anger over inflation, austerity policies, and a political class that many citizens consider to be failing.

A poll by Ipsos shows that 46% of French people support the movement, including left-wing voters, but also over half of those who support the far-right National Rally party.
