Trump praises administration's achievements - President blames Biden for

In a speech from the White House, US President Donald Trump praised his achievements and blamed his Democratic predecessor for soaring consumer prices. The statement comes as his party prepares for tough midterm elections next year. “Eleven months ago I inherited a mess and I’m fixing it,” Trump said.

The Republican president, who often says he doesn't take credit for his own achievements, offered few new policy initiatives to address the high cost of living. Instead, the speech struck a tone of discontent, with Trump complaining about what he called the "immigrant invasion," violent crime and transgender rights issues. He blamed former President Joe Biden, past trade deals, immigrants and what he described as a corrupt system.

At the same time, Trump highlighted the administration's work this year on a range of issues, from reducing border crossings to lowering the prices of some goods, and promised that the country will be stronger next year.

Among few concrete initiatives, Trump announced that his administration will send a $1,776 “warrior dividend” to 1.45 million members of the U.S. armed forces next week. He also supported a Republican proposal to give citizens cash to cover the cost of health insurance, instead of subsidies through the Affordable Care Act. That proposal still lacks sufficient support in Congress.

“I want the money to go directly to the people, so you can buy your own health care,” Trump said. “The only losers will be the insurance companies.”

Surprisingly, he devoted little time to foreign policy, a topic that had occupied much of his first year in office. The speech gave the president a chance to address concerns about affordability, an issue he has repeatedly called a Democratic hoax.

Trump acknowledged that prices remain high but argued that the country is “on the verge” of an economic “boom.” He vowed that conditions would improve next year, citing his fiscal policies, tariffs and plans to replace Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
