The Tax Administration "interrogates" television workers about their

The Tax Administration has started physical checks of the media and communication sectors for undeclared real salaries within the anti-information campaign launched in January of this year.

According to the General Directorate of Taxes, phase one was completed at the end of June, when 18 entities evaluated as high risk were controlled by the Risk Management Directorate. On the other hand, phase two, which has just started, consists of the control of the 3 entities considered at the highest risk, such as: the sector of private education; the sector of media and communication; and that of insurance companies.

Tax Administration controls are focused on the 5 subjects assessed as having a high risk as far as the phenomenon of under-declaration of wages is concerned. For positions of journalists, cameramen, screenwriters, editors, etc., the salary is lower than the average of the sector for these professions. The control is carried out in the field through questionnaires drawn up by the tax authorities and sent to randomly selected employees.

The form contains questions related to lifestyle, assets owned by the employee, salaries of family members or expenses that lead to understanding one person’s real salary. According to taxes, these checks are in favour of employees as they aim to declare their real wages. Meanwhile, control includes interviews with taxpayers as well as verification of cash balances and financial movements. The General Directorate of Taxes announces that very soon, controls in the implementation of the Anti-informality Plan will also extend to the sector of insurance companies, the third sector assessed as high risk, after private education and the media, because in certain different job positions there are declared lower salaries compared to the same positions in similar subjects within the same sector.

The tax administration sent 2,278 personalized letters to subjects belonging to the insurance companies sector, the media and communication sector, and the private education institutions sector, the other 3 sectors assessed as high risk, after construction and trade, for which there was no reaction.
