How do young people who live alone cope? - Radonshiqi: They turn to family for additional income

Living alone is becoming increasingly common in Tirana, but also more expensive. From rent to monthly bills and food, an individual faces almost the same expenses as a family.
Economic expert, Romina Radonshiqi, says that young people often turn to their families for additional income.
"Consumption expenses, on the other hand, and rental expenses are very high. Young people are the target group that has the highest expenses, as they are not very good managers of personal finances. Living alone today has more expenses. Young people also consume a good part of their meals outside, as they also work long hours. Between the choice of whether a young person will live with family, or alone, the highest expenses are definitely when living alone.
If we refer to the level of wages, young people are more part of the informal labor market and often at low wage levels. Today, living alone has become a burden. On the one hand, we have a positive element, that young people learn from financial problems, but on the other hand, many young people live alone, but due to high expenses they turn to their family again for additional income", says Radonshiqi.
Radonshiqi says that young people also spend a lot of money to be competitive in the labor market, through various trainings, but all of this is keeping them away from starting a family.
"Young people spend a lot of money to be educated, trained, in order to be competitive in the labor market, but on the other hand, some of them postpone marriage and cohabitation because they are afraid of the financial burden," says Radonshiqi.
If we consider rental prices in the capital, a 1+1 apartment in the suburbs costs an average of 46 thousand lek according to Numbeo.
Meanwhile, by adding utility bills such as electricity, water, and cell phone, expenses increase significantly. However, costs are not just bills, but food, transportation, clothing, and entertainment.
Meanwhile, the average gross salary in the country is around 80 thousand lek, which means that living alone is a huge financial burden.
