GDP per capita, around 9,046 euros - Tirana 40% above the national average, North and South "fight" for development

According to official data for 2023, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Albania reached 9,046 euros, marking an increase compared to previous years. The data shows large differences between the regions of the country, with Tirana leading convincingly with 12,566 euros per capita, while Kukës ranks last with only 5,049 euros.
The Center region has the highest level of GDP per capita, at 11,024 euros, mainly influenced by the economic weight of the capital. Meanwhile, the North region has the lowest value, at 7,527 euros, while the South stands slightly higher, at 7,769 euros.
At the regional level, apart from Tirana, Durrës and Fier stand out for their good economic performance, with 9,980 and 9,573 euros per capita respectively. On the other hand, Dibra, Kukës and Berat remain the weakest economically, with GDP per capita below 5,600 euros.
These data highlight the regional disparities that continue to characterize the Albanian economy, with development and investment concentrated mainly in Tirana and some coastal areas.
According to data for 2023, Tirana has a GDP per capita that is almost 40% above the national average. Kukës and Dibra are the weakest, with less than 60% of the national average, while Durrës and Fier show good development and are approaching the most dynamic areas.
