Countries with the best work-life balance - Finland ranks first. Australia, the country with the worst report
Work-life balance has never been more important to employees than it is today, and where we live often determines how easy or difficult it is to find the right balance.
Remitly ( RELY ), a company that helps expats send money back home more easily, surveyed 4,200 working adults in 22 countries, mostly in Europe and America, to learn more about their work-life balance.
In the fifth place of the countries with the best balance, we find New Zealand, which was rated positively thanks to relatively short working days for residents and reduced travel times. France holds the fourth position, with long holidays for workers and a short working day compared to other countries.
Switzerland is known for long days at the office, but we find it in third place thanks to the high quality of work and generous vacation time. Denmark ranks second, with a short working day, reduced travel time and an overall high quality score. The country with the best work-life balance is Finland, thanks to residents who enjoy short days and impressive work quality, as well as long vacations to break away from the daily grind.
Hungary, on the other hand, was ranked the fifth worst country in terms of fragile balance, with residents suffering long hours and considerable travel. The United States ranked fourth worst, thanks to long office hours, short breaks and employees reporting an average sleep time of just 6 hours and 31 minutes.
Ireland is third on the list, with a low quality score and workers complaining about long commutes. Norway's second-from-bottom ranking may be surprising, but residents reported not getting enough sleep, poor job quality, and working long hours. At the bottom of the ranking is Australia, characterized by long working days, time-consuming commutes and low-quality work.
