How much is the Albanian economy worth in a day? In every 24 hours of a year, about 69 million euros are produced. We are third in the region

Based on the latest INSTAT data, the country's Gross Domestic Product for 2024 is estimated at around 2.51 trillion lekë or approximately 25.2 billion euros. Dry figures on paper that often fail to translate clearly into everyday meaning. In this context, the idea is to see the Albanian economy in a different way, namely how much it is worth in a day. Simplifying the calculation, it turns out that the Albanian economy produces around 69 million euros per day. So, in every 24 hours of a year, this is the monetary value that the country's economy generates.
Within this panorama, Tirana holds the main weight of the production of goods and services. According to data on the distribution of GDP by region, the capital generates 43% of the national economy. Translated into figures, this means that the economy of Tirana alone produces about 10.8 billion euros per year. Or, in daily terms, Tirana is worth about 29.6 million euros per day. So, almost half of the entire country's production is concentrated in a single city, making the capital not only the administrative and political center, but also the real engine of the Albanian economy.
When we analyze the economic activities that carry the greatest weight in the Albanian economy, it emerges that trade, transport and food services are the main engines. Construction is also a key sector, generating around 300 billion lek, while agriculture, forestry and fishing also provide a strong impetus.
Placed in a regional context, this figure takes on another meaning. Albania, with 69 million euros of production per day, stands at a higher level than some of its close neighbors. North Macedonia produces about 16.7 billion euros per year, which translates into about 46 million euros per day. Kosovo, with an economy of about 11.2 billion euros, manages to produce 31 million euros per day. Meanwhile, Montenegro, with a GDP of about 8.1 billion euros, generates about 22 million euros per day. In this group, Albania not only comes out ahead, but also significantly widens the gap over the years.
But further in the region, facing the larger economies, the picture changes. Bosnia and Herzegovina produces around 28.3 billion euros per year or 78 million euros per day, positioning itself above Albania. Serbia remains in another category, with an economy reaching over 81 billion euros, which gives it a daily output of 224 million euros.
