How much do Albanian businesses spend on data storage? Nearly one in 3 enterprises pays a fee for purchasing and using the cloud

One of the newest needs of companies today is to store documents and information digitally. With the acceleration of the digitalization process, the purchase of memory and servers for data storage, whether physical or in the cloud, has gone from an optional choice to a necessity for the functioning of businesses.
According to data from the European Statistical Agency, about 33.6% of Albanian companies have invested in servers or cloud services to store their information.
In terms of costs, cloud spending varies depending on the size of the business and the level of use. For small and medium-sized businesses, the average cost ranges from $20 to $100 per user per month, which translates to about $240 to $1,200 per year. These services are mainly used for document storage, email communication, data backup, and basic management applications, while large companies use the cloud on a much broader scale, for advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence, and systems critical to business operations. In large companies, the purchase of cloud can exceed the average cost several times.
Comparing the data at the regional level shows that Albania ranks second in terms of the percentage of companies using the cloud, right behind Serbia, which leads with 41.5%. Albania is followed by Montenegro with 33.3%, while Bosnia & Herzegovina remains the country with the lowest percentage of companies that have invested in servers or digital storage.
At the European level, the countries of Northern Europe are convincingly leading the use of the cloud. Finland stands out with almost 80% of companies purchasing this service, followed by Sweden, Malta, Ireland and Denmark. At the other end of the ranking are Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece, where companies are less inclined to invest in servers or cloud services.
