The number of enterprises increases by 10%. Businesses in trade, services and hotels with restaurants lead.
INSTAT has recently published data on the demographics of enterprises in Albania for the annual period 2021–2023.
According to these statistics, in 2023, a total of 125,736 enterprises were active in Albania, 12,346 were new, while 810 were closed. Compared to 2 years ago, the number of active enterprises increased by almost 10%.
Regarding their typology, enterprises operating in the trade and repair of vehicles and motorcycles led the way, accounting for 35.2% of the total.
Following them were enterprises in the field of accommodation and food service, which accounted for 14.3%, while professional, scientific and technical activities accounted for 7.9% of the market.
The data also reveals the distribution of employees in these enterprises. In 2023, 21.8% of employees were engaged in the automotive trade and services sector, 15.5% in the manufacturing industry, and 9.1% in the construction sector.
It is noted that a significant portion of new businesses created during the year had a primary focus on trade, vehicle repairs, as well as hotels and restaurants.
Regarding the size of the enterprises, 51.1% of them had no employees, while 37.1% had between 1 and 4 paid employees. Only a small proportion of businesses had a larger number of employees: 5.4% had 5–9 employees, while 6.4% had 10 or more.
The enterprises closed during 2023 were mainly small, 61.5% of them had no employees.
