Who bought Albanian agricultural products? Cambodia and Tajikistan tried “Made in Albania” for the first time
In recent years, Albanian agricultural exports have been experiencing steady growth, contributing to the country's economic development. With a particular focus on diversifying markets and improving product quality, Albania has the potential to further expand its presence in international markets.
According to the latest data for 2024, exports of the "Food, Beverages, Tobacco" commodity group are estimated at around 53 billion lek, or around 530 million euros. Over the past 20 years, there has been a high increase in exports of agricultural products, however, compared to 2023, we see that the depreciation of the single European currency has not spared them. The export record for this group was recorded precisely in 2023, with a value of 55.6 billion lek.
Which countries are preferring Albanian agricultural products the most?
Italy remains Albania's main trading partner, accounting for a large portion of 13.8 billion lek. Kosovo, Greece and Serbia are also important destinations for Albanian agricultural exports, followed by the United States, North Macedonia, Germany, Spain and Croatia. Bosnia and Herzegovina closes the "Top 10" of main partners in terms of agricultural exports.
But with which of these did we have increases and decreases in exports?
The United States, North Macedonia, Spain, and Bosnia and Herzegovina purchased more agricultural products than in 2023. Meanwhile, exports with other major partners declined.
The data also speaks of new markets in 2024. According to the figures, Albanian agricultural products have gone to Cambodia and Tajikistan for the first time.
However, the export of agricultural products in Albania is still hampered by several challenges that affect the growth and development of this sector, such as limited access to finance, high production costs, food safety standards, etc.
