What does Albania trade abroad? Exports were dominated by fuels and clothing, but with a significant decline
Albania's foreign trade for 2024 has marked interesting developments with changes in the values of exported and imported goods compared to the same period in 2023. The data shows a significant decrease in exports due to the decline of the single European currency.
"Scan Intel" has previously analyzed data on the type and geography of products that Albania purchases from abroad. But what are the main products that our country trades abroad?
According to the data, during the eleven-month period, Albania's total exports were dominated by several main categories such as mineral fuels, mineral oils and distillation products, the value of which reached 41.5 billion lek or 35.8% less compared to 2023. The second and third chapters with the highest value of exports during the January-November period of 2024 are footwear and footwear, followed by complementary clothing items.
These values reached 41.3 billion lekë, reflecting an annual decrease of 20.3% and 32.5 billion lekë for complementary clothing. This reflects the great damage that the fall of the euro brought to exporters and especially the blow to the tailoring industry. Among the 10 main chapters that also recorded the highest value, the largest decline was recorded by fuels, cast iron and steel, and clothing articles.
The most valued annual increases are in ores and iron and steel products.
But what else does Albania export? Among the most important items are machinery and electrical equipment, ores and slags, edible vegetables, aluminum and products made from it.
Regarding the geography of exports for the main item we export, namely fuels, the data speaks of partners such as Italy, Spain, Germany, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
