What "threatens" the Albanian economy? WEF: From emigration, to the inadequacy of public services and inequality
This year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has published its report on risks to the global economy. Among the countries analyzed is Albania, which is ranked among the top 5 risks. Involuntary emigration is considered the number one risk to the Albanian economy this year and next. This is a problem that our country is constantly suffering from, bringing a series of consequences, the most important of which are the lack of labor and the aging of the population. In second place is another threat that the Albanian economy has faced, and the World Economic Forum refers to it as the lack of work and talent.
Risk number three is related to economic crime and other illegal activities. Here too we are in the context of a major current challenge that we have been constantly faced with.
Insufficient public services and social protection rank 4th. Another major risk to the country's economy, ranked 5th, is income inequality.
This report and the risks listed for each country's economy are made in the form of a survey of over 900 experts from the academic, business and policy-making worlds. The focus is on 121 countries around the world, and the survey was conducted between September 2 and October 18, 2024.
Meanwhile, on a global scale, in the short term, the 5 biggest risks are assessed as: misinformation and disinformation, extreme weather events, armed conflicts, societal polarization, and cyber espionage.
