Protected areas, a destination for tourism and adventure/ 5.9 million visitors

Albania is increasingly attracting nature and adventure lovers, becoming a tourist destination with extraordinary potential. According to the Ministry of Environment, during 2025, 5.9 million visitors visited the country's protected areas, marking a 6% increase compared to 2024, with the majority being foreign tourists.

"Protected areas are valuable ecotourism assets, preserving biodiversity and offering opportunities for local development. The dedicated work of the administrations of these areas guarantees careful hospitality and sustainable management," the Ministry of Environment writes.

Landscapes and national parks are not just natural attractions, but also a source of employment and international promotion of Albania. Through the expansion and protection of these spaces, the aim is to preserve the untouched state of nature and strengthen its position as a sustainable tourist destination.

Experts emphasize that promoting these areas not only increases the number of visitors, but also raises awareness about the importance of nature conservation, creating a model that can serve as an example for the region and beyond.
