Two warehouses with smuggled clothing discovered - 4 people arrested, two others wanted
The police operation codenamed "Fake Star 5" is being finalized by the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Sector.
Two warehouses were discovered on Arber Street, where smuggled clothing with fake logos of well-known international brands was being printed. According to the State Police, four citizens were arrested, two were wanted, one of whom was a Turkish citizen, and four employees are being processed at large.
Also, the State Police informs that large quantities of clothing, dozens of sewing, printing or stamping machines, logos of well-known international brands, 6 documents of a Turkish citizen, a sum of Lek, a computer unit, 1 mobile phone, as well as other items/documents that will serve the investigation have been seized.
As a result of the immediate intervention, it was found that the 2 warehouses were equipped with machine lines for sewing, printing and stamping with fake logos of well-known international brands, suspected smuggled clothing and accessories.
Meanwhile, throughout 2024, the Customs Administration identified and removed from circulation 40,911 pieces of various clothing and accessories, which were suspected of infringing on the intellectual property of global trademarks.
A few months ago, the government initiated several legal changes aimed at providing more protection to businesses that have registered trademarks, as well as to consumers.
According to the draft, trademark owners who find that their name is being imitated or appropriated by someone else will be able to file a lawsuit in court, request the removal from circulation, confiscation and placing under control of goods that are suspected of infringing previously registered trademark rights.
Meanwhile, abusive traders can be fined huge sums and end up behind bars for trading in counterfeit goods and imitating prestigious brands.
