The craft of baking is disappearing - Association "eyes" from the state to save the sector

Amid the overall labor shortage, bakeries are now also facing a shortage of workers, making them a disappearing craft. The plight of bread, pastry, and dough producers requires maximum attention from the relevant institutions.
Gëzim Peshkëpia, Head of the Association of Bread, Pastry and Dough Producers:
"Bread producers have long been concerned about the lack of labor, but recently this has returned to an alarming situation, as we are the only country in Europe with artisanal bread. Bread producers have long been concerned because there are no specialist bakers. In vocational schools, which previously had full contingents of students for the Bread-Pastry group, now they have almost none. Likewise, there is almost no interest in working in bakeries, in learning the baker's craft."
The association has sent a request to the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the government, with a focus on subsidies but not only.
"We demand from the relevant institutions and the Government, maximum attention to all links related to the specialty of bread making. We demand the treatment of "bread making" as a disappearing craft. We demand concrete measures to attract contingents of young people interested in this craft, by providing scholarships, accommodation opportunities and other facilities. We demand that the category of the specialty "bread making" be subsidized, with specific payment to alleviate the high salaries required in the conditions of the workforce."
According to Peshkëpi, the arrival of foreign workers in this sector will not be fruitful.
