Tourism, with new rules - Categorization of accommodation structures, a step

The ministry responsible for tourism has approved a new regulation that sets out the conditions, criteria, deadlines and procedures for the categorization of accommodation structures, with the aim of increasing standards and further formalizing the tourism sector in the country.

The regulation establishes a unified and detailed framework for how accommodation structures apply for and are provided with official categories, clearly defining criteria related to services, infrastructure, security, management standards and minimum conditions that must be met by entities.

An important innovation of this act is the standardization of the categorization procedure, which sets precise deadlines for reviewing applications, as well as the obligations that structures must respect after receiving the category. This aims to increase transparency and avoid informal practices in the accommodation market.

According to the regulation, categorization serves not only as an administrative instrument, but also as a guarantee for the consumer, providing accurate information on the level of service offered by each accommodation facility.

The process of categorizing accommodation structures is expected to take place in three consecutive phases, starting with the submission of the request by the entity, accompanied by the relevant documentation, continuing with the administrative and technical verification of the criteria, including on-site control, and concluding with the decision-making for granting the relevant category.

The authorities estimate that the implementation of this regulation will directly impact the increase in the quality of the tourist offer, the strengthening of fair competition and the improvement of Albania's image as a tourist destination.

The regulation applies to all accommodation structures operating in the territory of the Republic of Albania and constitutes an important step in the approximation of national standards with European practices in the field of tourism.
