Cultural tourism/ Gonxha: 17% more domestic and foreign visitors in the first 5 months of the year!
The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, has published figures that clearly speak of the increase in visitor numbers, from magnificent castles, museums full of history, to archaeological parks that fascinate every visitor.
From January to May of this year, cultural monuments and cultural heritage sites were visited by 382,036 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, this figure is 17% higher.
The list of most visited destinations is topped by the National Museums with 133,862 visitors. This is followed by the Archaeological Parks with 174,661 visitors, as well as 74,513 visitors to the Castles and Monuments.
"Our cultural heritage, from museums to archaeological parks and fortresses that preserve the spirit of Albanian history, welcomed 382,036 domestic and foreign visitors in the first 5 months of this year, an increase of 17% compared to 2023," Gonxha said in a post on social networks.
Cultural sites in January-September 2024 had 40% more foreign tourists and 31% more domestic visitors.
The list of most visited destinations is topped by the Gjirokastra Castle with 196,515 visitors. It is followed by the Butrint National Park with 127,753 visitors and in third place in terms of visitation is the “Gjergj Kastrioti” Museum, Krujë with 100,874 visitors.
