The Parliamentary Committee on Productive Activities has approved an additional loan of 40.7 million euros for the Tirana - Durrës railway project and the new branch towards Rinas airport.
The loan will be obtained from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and will serve for the construction of eight railway station buildings as well as for financing the increase in the costs of the existing contract.
Meanwhile, Muçaj announced that this is not the final financing for this railway line, as additional funds will also be needed for the electrification project.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has granted another loan for this project worth 36.87 million euros and together with the new loan, the value of the loan to be obtained from the EBRD reaches 77.57 million euros.
The initial project for the rehabilitation of this railway line, in addition to the EBRD loan, is co-financed by a grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework, worth 35.44 million euros, and an EBRD grant of 1.1 million euros.
Meanwhile, the government has stated that it is also seeking funding for the construction of the segment that will restore the train station in Tirana.
