“Tirana Training Center”/ Gonxhja: Training for 400 students, great economic and touristic gains
The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, was present today at the presentation of the "Tirana Training Center", an innovative center dedicated to the creative industry in Albania and which will be located in the premises of the former Kinostudio.
Minister Gonxhja said that "Tirana Training Center" is one of the most ambitious and promising projects of the artistic habitat, dedicated to the future of Albanian cinematography.
"It is clear that for us, the most pro-American people in the world, the USA has many reasons to admire, its way of life, its freedom, its influence in the world, but above all, that world where fantasy, creativity and the infinite power of dreams and change that the Hollywood planet produces are mixed," said Minister Gonxha.
The Minister of MEKI emphasized that the "Tirana Training Center" will very quickly become the catalyst for an epochal and much-needed revolution for the creative industry in Albania.
"Today, the multi-year efforts to reenergize this sector are naturally harmonized with modern trends and market needs, early education, training and employment. The opening of a creative center by Catalyst, under the supervision of famous names who have on their business cards the emblems of HBO, Warner Bross, Disney, Netflix, etc. in the space built at the request and blessing of Stalin himself, 70 years ago in Tirana, once impenetrable to foreign performances, is a worthy scenario for a film that tells the story of how a void can be transformed into an oasis of freedom, creativity and the power of art and talent", said Gonxha.
According to the minister, this project aims to create a new branch of professional education related to the field of film and screen.
"This will be a valuable investment in educating the younger generations who will contribute to this challenging industry that must keep pace with the times. Secondly, we create a direct instrument that will connect the market with enthusiasts in the field, creating new opportunities for cooperation and exchange of joint regional projects and beyond. Thirdly, we help build a strong productive and supportive ecosystem where anyone with desire and passion can play a role in creating sustainable and innovative projects."
Fourth, this project has the potential to bring great economic, social and cultural benefits by placing Albania at the center of the Mediterranean map of the creative and manufacturing industry," he emphasized.
He highlighted the fact that this innovative center will train 400 students, from children to adults, in classes for acting, directing, animation, cinematography, music, screenwriting, etc. “With the opening of this center, we are laying the foundations for the creation of an events center that will enrich our artistic calendar, from film and cinematography mini-festivals to the Fame Tour, which will explore unique landscapes and filming locations in Albania.”
According to Gonxha, the creative industries generate about 5% of the Gross Domestic Product in the European Union, over eight million jobs, being among the best-paid sectors. "The film "Lord of the Rings" generated about 600 million dollars a year at its peak in New Zealand. "Game of Thrones" was also a great help for Croatia, as well as for other countries such as Northern Ireland and Iceland, where there were tens of millions of euros in benefits in the areas, thanks to the sensational tourism," he added.
Gonxha emphasized at the end of his speech that MEKI is determined to support in every possible way this model of the future that seems to be oriented towards production, innovation and industry and not as a sector that survives only thanks to state support.
