High temperatures "deplete" energy/ KESH "does not part with" purchases. Around 43.6 million euros in July
The Albanian Electric Power Corporation (KESH) has once again purchased electricity on the free market. High temperatures in these summer days and the lack of rainfall for the production of energy from hydroelectric power plants have led to supply problems and increased demand for energy. As a result, KESH has been forced to purchase to meet consumer needs.
The Albanian Power Corporation has conducted three procurement procedures during the month of July. In the first procedure, KESH has spent 6.87 million euros in total for the purchase of energy at an average price of 130 euros/mWh for the first lot and 123 euros/mWh for the second lot. This purchase was carried out to guarantee the supply of energy from July 7 to July 13.
In the second procedure, electricity was purchased at an average price of 123 euros/mWh and 127 euros/mWh. This procedure was developed to provide electricity for the period 14-20 July.
Meanwhile, the last purchasing procedure was carried out to cover energy needs in the period July 21 to July 27. In this procedure, again divided into two lots, energy was provided at an average price of 130 euros/mWh and 127 euros/mWh.
In total, the Albanian Power Corporation has spent 3.75 million euros in the second procedure and 6.78 million euros on energy imports in the last procedure. So, in the first two weeks of July, the total energy bill amounts to 17.4 million euros. If we count here the purchase of 26.21 million euros at the end of June, the total purchases for July's energy supply amount to 43.6 million euros.
In the first week of July alone, we had a 20% increase in electricity demand.
In the first week of July 2024, demand averaged 18.6 million kilowatt-hours, while in the first week of July 2025, we had a demand of 22.4 million kilowatt-hours. This is as a result of hot days, but also due to the increasing demand from new hotel or apartment units that have begun to be usable, as well as operational business units.
