Smart technology in 415 feeders of electrical substations/ OSSH opens tender for smart meters, advantages for the system and customers
With a limit fund of 55 million lek, the Distribution System Operator has opened the tender for the installation of smart meters for 415 existing electrical substation feeders.
The project envisages the replacement of current equipment with latest generation meters, which provide accurate measurements, real-time transmission to central control or monitoring systems, and high communication reliability.
According to the OSSH, the purpose of the investment is to increase the operational efficiency of the network, accurate and impartial billing for consumers and reduce technical and non-technical losses. This investment will also serve as a basis for modern management of the electricity network, in accordance with the requirements of the energy market and EU directives, and prepare for future integration into intelligent network systems (Smart Grid).
Similar investments have been undertaken before. Among other things, last year a financing contract was signed with the German Development Bank – KfW, within the framework of the project “Electricity Distribution Investment Program I”, which aimed to reconstruct substations, as well as adapt them to operate or maneuver online, through the SCADA system. According to OSHEE, such investments bring advantages to customers of all categories, as they avoid or prevent breakdowns that may arise from loads on the electrical network, as well as reduce the maneuvering time at the facility, since the operations are carried out remotely.
