Trump's tariffs on Albania are having an effect - In April, exports to the

The reciprocal tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on imported goods, including Albania, have begun to take effect. For our country, a general tariff of 10% has been imposed on all exports to the US.

According to data from the Institute of Statistics, last month Albanian exports to the United States of America decreased by 30%.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of the year, the decline reached 15%, dropping from 3,490 tons in the same period last year to around 3,000 tons this year. The most pronounced decline was recorded in April, when reciprocal tariffs were imposed by the US on Albania and many other countries in the world.

According to official data, the greatest impact on this decline was had by groups of metal materials used in construction, mainly cast iron and steel, which accounted for almost 50% of total exported goods.

From 465 tons in April 2024, exports from this group fell to just 2 tons last month. This downward trend began at the beginning of the year, when the US applied high tariffs on steel and aluminum, which come mainly from China, but also affected other exporting countries, including Albania.

A smaller impact has also been observed on some agricultural products, such as vegetables, as well as dairy by-products.

On the other hand, despite the decline in exports to the US, Albania has increased exports of metals and other products to countries in the region, especially Greece, North Macedonia and Turkey. Exports of pig iron and steel have increased in these markets, partially offsetting losses in the US market.
