The train station returns to Tirana/ 364 million lek allocated in this year's budget, total cost 1.8 billion lek

The restoration of the train station in Tirana will cost 1.8 billion lek, while the 2025 budget amendments, through the Normative Act, have allocated funding of 364 million lek, which will go towards this purpose. According to the accompanying report, this segment has a length of 4 km and starts from the public transport terminal near the Kamza turn and ends where the train station in the capital used to be.
The construction of the Tirana - Durrës - Rinas railway line will be completed next year, while according to the authorities, electrification and the arrival of trains for the start of operations are intended to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
Currently, 2 contracts are being implemented for the completion of this line, one for the construction of the line and one for the stations. For the first contract, which includes civil works and signaling - telecommunications, according to the Albanian Railways, 90% of the works have been completed and the internal installations related to the signaling - telecommunications systems, which are closely related to the progress of the works on the station buildings, remain to be finalized. Regarding the latter, about 25% of the works have currently been completed, while their finalization is expected in May 2026. In parallel, a 2-phase tender for electrification is being conducted for this railway work, a procedure managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Meanwhile, with the allocation of funds in the budget, the announcement of the tender competition is expected for the company that will build the 4 km segment and the new train station building in Tirana.
