Do Albanians not prefer imported ice cream? - Up to 400 kg per day of

No one can live without eating ice cream in the summer and beyond. But what are the import figures? Referring to data from the General Directorate of Customs, it is seen that the import of ice cream in the period January-May this year has decreased, compared to the same period last year.

According to official data, in the period January-May of this year, about 1 million and 120 thousand kilograms of ice cream were imported, or about 443 million and 260 thousand lek.

But ice cream imports are declining this year, compared to the parallel period last year, where figures show that in January-May 2024, a total of 1 million 364 thousand kilograms of ice cream were imported, or 481 million 145 thousand lekë.

According to customs data, a total of 3 million 421 thousand kilograms of ice cream were imported in 2024, or about 1 billion 145 million lek.

But what are the costs of producing an ice cream?

"Ice cream is expensive in general, starting from the machinery, from the refrigerators, from the raw material. Ice cream is an expensive product. We start the season in March, until the end of November. In March, April, May, there is a lot of work, influx. In July and August, people go to the beaches, the situation calms down. September returns again, ice cream has value, it has protein, milk,"  says Endri Kapaj, an ice cream producer.

To cover costs and achieve profits, according to the survey conducted by Scan TV, a cup of ice cream costs 100-150 lek in Tirana.
